Message From Chief Student Experience Officer Allen W. Groves
Dear Members of the Orange Community:
It is with great sadness that I write to share the news of the passing of Kayla Corrigan. Kayla was a senior in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management from Needham, Massachusetts, preparing to graduate this spring with a degree in marketing management. Kayla immersed herself into internships strengthening her understanding of navigating marketing decisions in an evolving global landscape. Outside of the classroom she was an active member of Sigma Delta Tau.
On behalf of Chancellor Kent Syverud, Vice Chancellor, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Lois Agnew, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation and Executive Dean of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management Mike Haynie, Martin J. Whitman School of Management Interim Dean Alex McKelvie and the entire Orange community, we offer our unwavering support and sincere condolences during this time.
Receiving news like this over the holidays can be particularly challenging, I encourage everyone to check in with one another and as needed, seek support from a variety of available resources:
- Students can receive confidential counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the Barnes Center at The Arch by calling 315.443.8000.
- For general ongoing assistance, students can contact Student Outreach and Support by emailing studentsupport@syr.edu.
- Dean of Students: Students are encouraged to email dos@syr.edu, if unsure where to begin or with questions of how to access support.
- Faculty and staff can reach trained clinicians 24 hours a day through Carebridge, the University’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, by calling 800.437.0911.
- All campus community members can access additional services and support through Hendricks Chapel and each chaplaincy by calling 315.443.2901.
Please keep Kayla’s family and friends in your thoughts at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Allen W. Groves
