Message From Chief Student Experience Officer Allen Groves

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

I am deeply saddened to share heartbreaking news about the passing of one of our students, Boburmirzo Sharipov, a junior majoring in human development and family science in the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Bob was from Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a resident advisor in Haven Hall. Unfortunately, Bob did not survive an automobile accident last night that also claimed the life of another person. A third occupant of the vehicle, who is also a Syracuse University student, is in the hospital.

Chancellor Kent Syverud, Provost Gretchen Ritter, Falk College Dean Diane Lyden Murphy and I extend our deepest sympathies, condolences and care to Bob’s family, his loved ones, fellow resident advisors, residents he served in Haven Hall and Bob’s many friends here and at home during this incredibly difficult time. We share in mourning this unimaginable loss with all those who knew and loved Bob.

While many are no longer on campus for the break, please know that services and support remain available even if you are away from Syracuse. Students may contact the Barnes Center at The Arch 24 hours a day, seven days a week for confidential counseling by calling 315.443.8000. Students seeking ongoing support and assistance can contact the case management team in Student Outreach, Monday through Friday, at 315.443.4357. Faculty and staff can contact trained clinicians 24 hours a day through Carebridge, the University’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, by calling 800.437.0911. Our entire campus community can also contact Hendricks Chapel for additional support and services at 315.443.2901.

I ask our entire Orange community to join me in keeping all those impacted by this tragic accident in your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Allen W. Groves
