Update From Chancellor Search Committee Co-Chairs
The message below was sent by chancellor search committee co-chairs Shelly Fisher ’80 and Lisa Fontenelli ’86 to Syracuse University students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025.
Dear Syracuse University Community:
We are writing today to provide an update on the Chancellor Search Committee’s continued progress toward identifying Syracuse University’s next chancellor.
We are pleased to share that the search is proceeding on schedule. Over the last several weeks, the search committee has reviewed numerous impressive candidate profiles representing individuals with broad and deep experiences and backgrounds. From this exceptional pool, we conducted interviews with a select group of candidates.
These initial interviews have gone extremely well, and we are encouraged by the caliber of leadership represented in the candidates. Following careful deliberation, the search committee has identified a smaller group of candidates to advance to the next phase of the process.
We are grateful for the dedication and diligence of our search committee members, who have invested considerable time and care in this critical work. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all of you—our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners—whose engagement and support have been instrumental throughout this process.
As we approach the winter break, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a peaceful close to the semester. We look forward to sharing further updates in the new year as the search process advances.
Sincerely,
Shelly Fisher ’80, Search Committee Co-Chair
Lisa Fontenelli ’86, Search Committee Co-Chair
