Proposals are now being accepted for the Study Away Faculty Awards, which provide funding for faculty projects at the University’s study away locations in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. Up to six full-time faculty members will receive awards of up to $10,000 each. Proposal deadline is Monday, Jan. 25.

The awards are designed to help faculty leverage resources connected to the study away locations for research, creative work and public scholarship, and to demonstrate how the University’s presence in those cities can advance cross-sector partnerships and innovative teaching. Award recipients will share their work through campus presentations and a Universitywide showcase.

This second round of awards places particular emphasis on professional, industry and community partnerships. Faculty are asked to utilize their study away time to build relationships that open pathways for student success; strengthen their own scholarly or creative work; and lay the groundwork for new student programs or University initiatives with the potential to grow into sustained relationships.

Funded projects should:

  • Take place at one of the three study away locations during the 2027-2028 academic year, with flexibility on timing and duration.
  • Include meaningful engagement with one or more professional, industry or community partners in the selected city.
  • Advance the faculty member’s research or creative work, spur new student programming (such as courses, internships, practicums, studios or co-curricular experiences) or advance University initiatives.
  • Increase opportunities for student success, including internships, mentoring, site visits and partner-based projects.
  • Result in a clear plan for sustained engagement after the award period.
