Submission Parameters
The Peel serves as a communication outlet for undergraduate student interests, experiences and voices. Content is curated to highlight student-centered topics, services and programs, primarily focused within the Division of the Student Experience’s purview (e.g. student success, student involvement, health and wellness, etc.). We aim to have all articles written by students. For students interested in contributing an article, below are the parameters for submission requests and pitches.
Here are a few examples of content that what would be appropriate to pitch:
- Curation posts (e.g. content chunks)
- Listicles
- Q&As
- Experiences as a student leader
- Personality quizzes
- Trivia quizzes
Different from a news outlet, The Peel serves as a blog and is shared with all undergraduates. As such, please keep in mind that the following content is not accepted at this time:
- Press releases and news stories
- Op-Eds
- Product promotions, endorsements or solicitations
- Content in violation of University policies
While writing experience is a plus, there is no need to have experience to be a contributor. If you are interested in contributing, we encourage you to connect with us prior to writing. Please email studentexperience@syr.edu with the following information:
- Your name, class year and home school/college
- Your idea/pitch
- Requested publish date (if applicable)
The Peel content managers exercise editorial oversight of all posts. We will reach out with next steps, expectations and requirements as appropriate. Please allow 5-7 business days before following up.
