Something I love to take advantage of is going on the Syracuse University LinkedIn page and reaching out to alumni who work at companies I am interested in and starting a conversation. It’s a great opportunity to network as well as learn from past Syracuse University students who have had a few years in the professional world.

Conduct research

Research is a skill that is beneficial no matter what field you are going into. As a top-tier research university, Syracuse University offers research programs for undergraduate students in a wide array of disciplines. Become a mentor

Professional development includes building all sorts of skills – interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving. If you find you’re already involved in student organizations and clubs and want something more, think about becoming a mentor. The Orange Success Mentoring Program is a great opportunity to support new students who have the same interests and goals as you. There’s no better way to increase your professional development than learning a new skill! From Adobe Creative Suite to Microsoft Excel, LinkedIn Learning is a great opportunity to build your resume. Syracuse University offers free access to LinkedIn Learning for all undergraduate Syracuse students with a Syracuse University email account.

Handshake is a great resource if you are just starting your professional development. You can schedule appointment for career coaching sessions and experiences tailored to your exact needs and overall goals. This is a great resource if you are having trouble finding internship opportunities, finding networking opportunities or if you just want to practice for an upcoming interview.

There are tons of opportunities on campus to build on your professional skills! As an editorial intern at Syracuse University’s Division of Enrollment and Student Experience I have gotten the opportunity to enhance my written and communication skills. This opportunity has been a great experience to talk about in job interviews and has definitely prepared me for a full-time career after graduation!
