Whether your destination is a beach getaway, snow-covered mountains or a relaxing staycation, Spring Break is around the corner for all of us! This mid-semester break can often be a time of excitement and exploration. The Barnes Center at The Arch Health Promotion team wants to ensure all students are safe and prepared for any and all activities the week-long vacation entails.
Health Promotion has the overarching mission of promoting health and wellness to the Syracuse community and encouraging the use of all resources available. Our programming focuses on stress reduction and harm reduction strategies—from healthy relationships, gratitude, and alcohol and other drugs education.
With the stress of midterms and assignments, I highly encourage starting Spring Break on the right foot by utilizing one of our stress relief activities. From booking an appointment in the Mindspa Wellness Rooms, a session in one of our massage chairs or visiting one of our many Pet Therapy sessions to de-stress with adorable dogs, Health Promotion is here to help you relax!
You may have seen Peer Leaders on campus with our Health Hubs, pop-ups that promote different health and wellness educational topics through fun activities, games and (everyone’s favorite part) prizes! This year, we are launching a Spring Break Ready Health Hub! This Health Hub will include many (completely free!) resources that are essential to a safe and fun Spring Break. The Health Hub will consist of a build-your-own system for participants to be able to take any harm reduction items they want! The Health Hub will include:
- Sunscreen: An essential for many beach vacations to reduce the harm of UV rays on your skin!
- Sleep masks: If your favorite part of break includes snoozing alarms, these are for you! Sleep is essential for healthy living and stress management. Catching up on sleep is an amazing way to rest before the end of the semester!
- Condoms: One of Health Promotion’s main objectives is promoting safer sex supplies. It is important to be prepared, informed and empowered in any sexual explorations and decisions.
- And so much more!!
Everyone has their own definition of rest and relaxation. While some might enjoy an exciting beach week ahead, others are counting down the days until they get to sleep in their nice, warm bed in their hometown. Regardless of your plans, Health Promotion has the resources and products for you. Make sure to stop at the Spring Break Health Hub this week, and keep an eye out for other Health Hubs throughout the rest of the semester!
