Nyle DiMarco will be addressing the Syracuse University community on Tuesday, March 23 as part of the University Lectures series. He’ll share his barrier-breaking story and shine a light on not only the struggles, but also the triumph of deaf culture. Get to know Nyle with these four interesting facts:
1. Nyle DiMarco works hard in the deaf community.
Nyle DiMarco founded the Nyle DiMarco Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of the deaf people around the whole world. The foundation is now working with deaf children and their family in order to improve access to accurate information about early language acquisition with a bilingual educational approach.
2. He has a twin brother, Nico.
Nico DiMarco, Nyle’s twin brother, is a deaf DJ. He accessed lyrics by reading along or memorizing them! His family showed their support by buying some speakers in order to help him feel the beat of the music at home. Nico began his career while studying at Gallaudet University.
3. He has a successful acting career.
He participated in a TV show “Switched at Birth” and starred in the American Sign Language Films movie “In the Can.” The most well-known shows he participated in and won are “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Next Top Model.”
4. He loves travelling.
Nyle DiMarco has traveled to more than 30 countries. He likes to take trains and cars because he can enjoy traveling in one tunnel after another. He believes that Sweden, Austria, Belgium were the most accessibility-friendly places he’s traveled.
