We know there is a LOT of information coming at us lately. In case you missed it, here is a quick summary of the latest need-to-knows as we close out October.
Fall 2020 Check Out
As we all know by now, we’re quickly approaching the end of the residential fall semester! We’re just a little under four weeks away. To help reduce the amount of stress and uncertainty, the University is already planning for the check-out process with specific guidelines to help plan for just about anything. Make sure you’re aware of the End-of-Semester Checkout Procedures, including pre-departure testing, what to pack, options for extenuating circumstances and guidance for off-campus students. Pay close attention to your checklist! Here are a few important things to note:
- Before leaving a residence hall or South Campus apartment, you’re required to schedule a checkout time in the MySlice Housing Portal.
- Be prepared to take all sentimental and significant personal belongings with you.
- Any loose belongings should be packed into the provided boxes. Label the boxes with your full name and mailing address. (This is simply a precautionary measure in the unlikely event residential instruction does not resume in the spring.)
- When departing, close and lock windows and your door, including sliding doors in some South Campus apartments.
- Don’t forget to update your mailing address with the Postal Service or any other service that delivers to you. Main desks will not be open to receive packages.
- Make sure you return your key! (They will be redistributed in January 2021.)
Campus Climate Pulse Survey
Your voice matters! Take the Campus Climate Pulse Survey, available on MySlice, to share your thoughts about the campus social climate at the University. The deadline is Oct. 30. Learn more about the survey’s purpose and importance on the Office of Diversity and Inclusion website.
Flu Vaccine
There is still time to get your flu vaccine! If you plan to have an in-person semester or use campus facilities this spring, a flu vaccine is required as part of the Stay Safe Pledge. Although you may get a flu vaccine from the provider of your choice, the University’s free Flu Clinic will continue through Friday, Nov. 6. We encourage you to use this resource! Schedule your flu vaccine appointment up to 72 hours in advance. For more information on flu vaccines, the requirement or how to submit proof from another provider, visit syracuse.edu/Fall 2020 or explore the FAQ.
Updating Contact Information
Before you leave campus, be sure to check your contact information in MySlice! Having an up-to-date phone number, email and address is critically important to ensure you receive updates regarding the University’s COVID-19 response, Spring 2021 updates and any other additional alerts. Be prepared to regularly check your syr.edu email over break.
Tents Are Coming Down
As you may have noticed, many of the tents around campus are coming down, including instructional tents, dining hall tents and the outdoor weights area near the Women’s Building. If you regularly used these spaces, please make sure to explore safe alternatives! Multiple study spaces are available and the Barnes Center at The Arch is open for reservations. As the Syracuse winter approaches, other options to ensure proper social distancing measures for classes and more are being explored for Spring 2021.
