Showing Support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Every year in April, students, faculty, staff and community members come together to show their support for survivors of sexual and relationship violence. There are plenty of ways to get involved this year, so be sure to check out the full calendar.

We know it’s a busy time of the semester, and you likely won’t be able to make it to everything. So to help, we’ve outlined a few events and a few ways to be involved.

Events

  • “Food for Thought” Panel Discussion: Thursday, April 4 from noon to 1 p.m. in Schine 228B, the Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution Services is hosting a panel discussion featuring individuals from campus departments working to end sexual violence across campus. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the different support options on campus and get a free lunch. A resource fair will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the atrium.
  • Phallacies: Join the entertaining and enlightening comedic entertainment group, Phallacies, Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in Grant Auditorium. The night will explore healthy masculinity, relationships and more with heartfelt humor and wit. Phallacies is an organization working to support masculinities that are healthy for individuals, families, and communities.
  • Yoga as Healing: Two sessions of trauma informed yoga will be held on Wednesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 24 from 5:05-5:55 p.m. in the Flanagan dance studio. Practice some self-care this month and promote healing through meditation specifically designed to regulate the nervous system through mind-body alignment. Yoga mats will be available.

Be Involved

  • #IWillTBTN: Take Back the Night might be over, but that doesn’t mean the pledge we took stops. Share the ways in which you will help end interpersonal violence by sharing an “#IWillTBTN by” statement on social media.
  • Paint Your Nails Teal: RAs across campus are challenging you to paint your ring finger teal in support of survivors and to get the conversation on sexual and relationship violence started. Get as creative as you want to, and show off your best nail art on social media using #SUGoesTeal.
  • Follow Along on Social Media: Be sure to follow @BeWellSU on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay updated on other events and initiatives. Tag @BeWellSU in your photos from the events and use #SUGoesTeal.
