The Student Health and Wellness Survey was sent out to all students’ Syracuse University emails (@syr.edu) on Feb. 13, and will be available until March 5. This survey focuses on students’ overall wellness and asks questions in areas such as substance use, physical wellness, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health. Responses to the survey are recorded anonymously and will be used by the Barnes Center at The Arch to help guide and enhance programming, services and resources on campus, as well as assess students’ evolving needs. Read on for five reasons why you should take the Health and Wellness Survey!

You Might Win a Prize

As college students, we love winning free things, so fill out the survey for a chance to win either a $75 Amazon gift card or an early course registration spot! Twenty students who complete the Health and Wellness survey will be randomly selected to win a $75 Amazon gift card, and five students will have the chance to win an early enrollment date for classes for the Fall 2023 semester.

You’ll Help Improve Campus Programming

If you’ve ever felt like there was a program that you wanted to attend or be a part of, but the University doesn’t currently offer it, this is your time to shine! The Barnes Center at The Arch will use your survey responses to tailor future programs, services and resources to ensure that students have access to the campus-appropriate resources they need.

Represent the Campus Climate

The data collected through the Health and Wellness Survey is helpful to the University in more ways than just improving or implementing programming. Your responses help the school evaluate the campus climate and overall student well-being; this not only helps the University become more aware of their own students’ needs and behaviors, but they can also look at similar survey results from other institutions to see how Syracuse compares.

It’s an Opportunity for Self-Reflection

Taking this survey requires a bit of reflection on your wellness and behaviors. This can be a great opportunity to check in with yourself and see if you feel good about where you are and what you’re doing, or if you think you may want to adjust some habits and behaviors or seek out additional resources.

It’s Easy

Completing the survey is quick and easy. All students need to do is check their @syr.edu emails for the link, click the link and fill out multiple choice questions on their mental health, physical wellness, sexual and reproductive health, and substance use. All responses are anonymous, and completing the survey should only take around 10 minutes for most individuals.

If you have any questions about the survey, feel free to email the Syracuse University Office of Institutional Research. If you experience any unpleasant emotions while taking the survey or want to seek help for mental health, substance use or physical health concerns, you can contact the Barnes Center at The Arch by emailing BarnesCenter@syr.edu or calling 315.443.8000. You can also explore available resources and services on the Barnes Center’s website.
