Christal R.S. Johnson earned a doctoral degree in strategic communication from the University of Oklahoma. She recently served as an assistant professor at Howard University. At Newhouse, she teaches PR research and PR campaigns classes.
Johnson’s research interests include strategic communication, health messages, identity and underrepresented audiences. She is also interested in studying black images in film. Her work appears in Public Relations Inquiry and Rocky Mountain Communication Review journals, and in “The Problematic Tyler Perry.”
She is a member of Public Relations Society of America and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
