Amy Ellen Schwartz
Amy Ellen Schwartz is a Professor of Economics, Public Administration and International Affairs and the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Chair in Public Affairs at Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. She also serves as a Senior Research Associate for the Center for Policy Research at Syracuse University.
Her interests include education policy, public finance and urban economics. Her research examines the relationship between student performance, housing and neighborhood change; public intervention for childhood obesity; immigration and mobility in urban schools; and the efficacy of school reforms.
Dr. Schwartz has focused her career on urban economic development, including work on Business Improvement Districts, housing investment, school choice and investment in infrastructure, among other issues in public finance. She is a co-PI and director of Transportation Research for the IES-funded National Center for Research on Education Access and Choice. Dr. Schwartz also serves on various editorial boards, including Regional Science and Urban Economics, PLOS-One, and Education Finance and Policy, and was the editor of Education Finance and Policy from 2014-2019.
Schwartz is also an Emeritus Professor of Public Policy, Education, and Economics at NYU.
