Foundations Series Promotes Student Success
A collaborative initiative launched last year, Foundations offers students a series of workshops that aim to improve self-efficacy, gain baseline knowledge and resources, increase self-awareness, and engage in and learn about being socially responsible.
The Fall 2018 Foundations Series launches Monday, Sept. 10, and continues for six consecutive Mondays. Undergraduate students who attend all workshops are also eligible to enter to win a $1,000 Foundations Scholarship.
“The Foundations series is aptly named as it covers important topics that help students set the foundation for their future success,” says Tracy Tillapaugh, graduate STEM career development specialist and co-organizer of the series. “Throughout the series, we hope to engage students in building their understanding of self and others, while also providing a tangible set of skills and resources they can use throughout their student experience.”
Each workshop is hosted from 7 to 8 p.m. in 207 Hall of Languages, and will feature a speaker with expertise in the respective topic area related to this fall’s theme: setting healthy boundaries. Topics for each session are as follows:
- Sept. 10 – Financial Literacy: Me and My Money: How do you and Money go Together?
- Sept. 17 – Leadership: Good to Great. Making the Jump to Next Level Living
- Sept. 24 – Physical Health and Nutrition: Navigating your Resources
- Oct. 1 – Career Development
- Oct. 8 – Community Involvement
- Oct. 15 – Self-Care and Healthy Relationships
The series will conclude with the Foundations Celebration and Scholarship Awards on Monday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 8 p.m. in 207 Hall of Languages.
