Poets, artists sought for 2019 Syracuse Poster Project
The Syracuse Poster Project has issued a call for participants for the 18th annual poster series.
Each year, the Project brings together artists and poets to create a series of illustrated poetry posters for display in Syracuse. Each poster features an illustrated poem about downtown, the city or nearby countryside.
The Project’s call for art, formerly limited to a class of illustration students at Syracuse University, now goes out to illustrators, graphic designers and other artists throughout the community. The project will award cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100 for first-, second- and third-place posters, respectively, and complementary benefits for up to 13 runners-up.
Writers can find entry materials at the Project’s website or by contacting Jim Emmons, project coordinator, at 315.424.8099. The poetry deadline is Sept. 7.
Artists may register to participate by emailing their contact information, including postal address, to firstname.lastname@example.org. In mid-September, the Project will distribute a handful of haiku to each registered artist. Each artist will then select one haiku to illustrate. Registered artists will complete their posters by Nov. 12.
The Project will announce the selected poets and artists in December. The posters will be released in April.
