Poet Discusses Life With a Seeing-Eye Dog
Poet and School of Education professor Stephen Kuusisto recently joined Atlanta’s WABE radio station to discuss his new memoir, Have Dog, Will Travel: A Poet’s Journey. The work details his encounter with his first seeing eye dog Corky, who he got after depleting eyesight left him blind at age 38.
“They paired me with this brilliant dog, who was infinitely wiser than any other dog I had ever met,” he said of his first meeting with Corky. “They asked me to spend a couple of days with her before we even began the guide dog stuff, and I realized that she was delightful, playful, curious, silly, but in wonderfully intelligent ways.”
