No Changes to Operation Status, Syracuse University Continues to Monitor Weather and Travel Conditions
Syracuse University continues to monitor and assess weather conditions for the afternoon and evening hours. Based on current conditions, the University expects to remain fully open and operational for the remainder of Wednesday, Feb. 7. This means all classes are still in session, and Centro bus routes operating on regular service.
In the event that any individual faculty members decides to cancel class, they are encouraged to reach out immediately to inform students.
It is important to note that as a residential campus, the University will, in general, remain open for business despite adverse weather conditions. The University does, however, conduct thorough due diligence prior to determining operating status. This includes consulting an independent weather service, Precision Weather Service, to help make decisions about weather delays, closings or work-schedule changes. Input is also provided by the divisions of Campus Safety and Emergency Services and Campus Facilities Administration and Services, both of which are responsible for ensuring the University’s roads, sidewalks and parking lots are kept clear and safe.
The University will continue to monitor the weather conditions throughout the afternoon and evening, and if any change in operational status is determined, it will be communicated immediately to the campus community. If a change in the University’s operating status becomes necessary, it will be announced:
• via the University’s Orange Alert system;
• on the University’s campus Twitter account @SUCampus;
• on news.syr.edu and syracuse.edu; and
• via the Syracuse University radio station WAER-FM88, as well as other local media outlets.
Only Syracuse University’s Office of News Services is authorized to transmit to the news media announcements about the University’s operating status. To learn more about winter weather preparedness, please click here[http://health.syr.edu/wellness/winter-health.html].
