Amazon Prime Day Prepares to Dominate Online Retail, Again
Retail expert Professor Amanda Nicholson is available for comment on Amazon Prime Day. The professor of retail practice at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management can offer insight on one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.
“Based on its success in 2016, when Amazon’s orders are reported to have risen 60 percent over the previous year, and during which it rolled out new offerings as frequently as every five minutes during the day, it appears likely that the company will again attempt to make this a bigger and better event. How? By paying even more careful attention to product selection and making sure that the offerings are really attractive—particularly to smartphone users who will only scroll once or twice,” says Nicholson.
“Last year in an attempt to go head to head with Amazon Prime Day’s impact and join in the discount frenzy, major retailers joined the game by offering promotions of their own and thereby starting a new mid-summer communal promotional event,” says Nicholson.
