With Election Day approaching on Nov. 8, Syracuse University students and staff are involved in a nonpartisan effort to engage students in voter registration, education and participation. If you are not yet registered to vote, please consider the information below to learn how you can get involved in the electoral process this year.

Students interested in registering to vote can do so by looking for displays like these at Bird LIbrary, along with Schine and Goldstein Student Centers.

Students interested in registering to vote can do so by looking for displays like these at Bird LIbrary, along with Schine and Goldstein student centers.

Eligibility requirements: In order to vote in New York State, you must be 18 years old by Dec. 31 of the year in which you apply and live at your present address at least 30 days before an election. Applications must be postmarked no later than Oct. 12 and received by a Board of Elections no later than Oct. 17 to be eligible to vote in the general election. This website offers more information, along with several options for registering.

How to register on campus: You can also get your New York State voter registration form at a number of convenient locations on campus. Look for the tall black boxes with the red, white and blue signs at Bird Library near the information desk, at the Schine Student Center near the center atrium and at the Goldstein Student Center near the reception desk.

Once you have filled out the form, just drop it in the box by Oct. 12.

Also, Elections Commissioner Dustin Czarny will be at the Schine Student Center Thursday, Sept. 15, (Room 228B) at 6 p.m. and at Goldstein Student Center (lobby) on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. Registration forms can be dropped off at either of those events.
