Call for Poetry for Syracuse Poster Project
The Syracuse Poster Project invites Central New York writers to submit haiku poems for the 2017 poster series, the 16th annual series. Each year the project brings together artists from Syracuse University and poets from the community to create a series of 16 posters for the poster panels of downtown Syracuse. Each poster features an illustrated poem about downtown, the city or nearby countryside.
The new series will consist of 15 posters created the traditional way (poem first, illustration second) and one special poster created in reverse (illustration first, poem second). For the special poster, Tong “Amy” Su, a graduate student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ illustration program, created an Erie Canal scene to mark the 2017 bicentennial of the canal. Writers are invited to submit haiku to complement the canal poster.
For entry materials, guidelines on writing haiku and posters from current and past series, see the web site: www.posterproject.org. Or call Jim Emmons, project coordinator, at 315- 424-8099. The submission deadline is Sept. 9. The project will announce the selected poets and artists in December and releases the poster series in April.
