Counseling Center and Mind Body Laboratory Offer Free Mindfulness Class to Students
The Syracuse University Counseling Center, in collaboration with the Mind Body Lab of the Syracuse University Psychology Department, is offering a free course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to SU and SUNY-ESF students. The eight-week course meets Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m., beginning Feb. 17. The program also includes a retreat class which will take place Saturday, April 2, from noon-4 p.m.
The program introduces participants to mindfulness meditation practices and their application to everyday life. More specifically, the course is designed to teach students how to access inner resources that improve their ability to cope effectively with the stresses of school, work and personal life.
Students interested in signing up for the class will need to attend a mandatory orientation/screening session. Students may attend a session on one of the following dates: Wednesday, Jan. 27, or Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 8-9 p.m. in Room 201 at 426 Ostrom Ave. At that session, students will be able to meet the instructor, learn more about the program, complete a brief screening and register for the class.
