Assessment Team Recommends Accreditation for Department of Public Safety
Following a thorough assessment of the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services, a team of assessors for the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) returned to their headquarters with a strong recommendation in support of the Department of Public Safety’s bid for accreditation.
“I am pleased to say that the assessment team gave our department an outstanding review, and will be filing a report with IACLEA recommending that we become an accredited agency,” says Interim Chief Jill Lentz.
“Achieving accreditation provides a professional benchmark with which to measure policies and procedures. It also ensures those practices are well-documented, department personnel receive clear guidance and qualified personnel are recruited and retained long term,” Lentz adds.
Accreditation is for four years, during which the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with the standards under which it was initially accredited.
“I am very proud of all those involved in the accreditation process and appreciative of their hard work and dedication,” says Accreditation Manager Andrea Stagnari.
The assessment team arrived in Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 24, and stayed through Monday, Jan. 26. The team accepted public comments on January 26.
The Department should receive official word from IACLEA regarding its accreditation status by the end of the spring semester.
