Elliot Douglas to Speak on STEM Topics
Elliot Douglas from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida and current chair of the Educational Research and Methods Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) will present on two STEM education topics:
- An “Introduction to the POGIL Method” Workshop on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2-5 p.m, 414 Bowne 414. POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) is an active learning method that has been well developed in the sciences and is breaking through into engineering, in no small part due to Douglas’s efforts. It is highly adaptable both to content and instructor experience level. This workshop will include both experiencing and practicing the method.
- A seminar on “Engineering Problem-Solving: Epistemology, Identity, and Beliefs” on Friday, Dec. 5, 1-2 p.m. in 105 Link as part of the Biomedical & Chemical Engineering Seminar Series . This talk is open to the public and should be of broad interest particularly to those in the STEM and education disciplines.
