Open House to Showcase School of Education Graduate Programs, Scholarships
The School of Education will host a graduate recruitment fair and open house on Friday, Nov. 14, from 4-6 p.m. in the Sharon Haines Jacquet Education Commons in Huntington Hall. University Avenue Garage parking tickets will be validated at the event, and refreshments will be served. Current Syracuse University undergraduate and graduate students, prospective students in the region and professionals interested in pursuing advanced degrees are invited to attend.
The recruitment fair will feature over 40 graduate programs within seven academic departments. Faculty, students and admissions staff will be present to answer questions about program requirements, scholarships, financial aid, housing options and the admissions process. The School of Education offers M.S., C.A.S., Ed.D. and Ph.D. degrees in counseling and human services; cultural foundations of education; exercise science; higher education; instructional design, development and evaluation; reading and language arts; and teaching and leadership.
Thirty-three-percent tuition scholarships are offered for specific programs to Syracuse University alumni who have graduated within the last five years and to students who are entering programs designated as “high-needs” fields, including special education, literacy education, instructional technology and STEM disciplines. Prospective students should seek advice from Laurie Deyo, School of Education graduate admissions recruiter, about the high-needs or SU Alumni scholarships.
Amie Redmond, assistant dean for academic and student services in the School of Education, reports that a survey conducted of 2014 SOE graduates found that nearly half (46 percent) chose to move on to graduate study upon graduation.
“The School of Education offers many graduate programs that students can complete in 1-2 years, and many are offered at a discount,” Redmond says. “At the open house there will be faculty and current students on hand to answer your questions, and to tell you about your options.”
