Chancellor Syverud Visits with Students Keeping Presence in Crouse-Hinds Hall
After returning from New York City, where he was meeting with alumni, Chancellor Kent Syverud stopped by the lobby of Crouse-Hinds Hall Tuesday afternoon to speak with students who are keeping a presence on the ground floor of the building following a student rally Monday.
“I just got back a minute ago and I wanted to see you as quickly as possible,” Chancellor Syverud said. “So thank you for being here.”
The students have organized under the name THE General Body and have issued a 43-page list that includes their demands. The students the Chancellor spoke with indicated they agreed with all the points in the document. “I understand that this document is your position and I’m going to read this tonight,” the Chancellor said.Chancellor Syverud informed student leaders that he has asked Dean of University College Bea González to serve as a liaison between him and the student group to begin a productive dialogue moving forward.
The Chancellor thanked the students for voicing their concerns and expressed a need to respect all the activity in Crouse-Hinds Hall, where hundreds of other students are learning throughout the day. Crouse-Hinds Hall is home to academic classrooms, faculty offices, computer laboratories and the University’s admissions office, where dozens of potential Syracuse University students and their families are welcomed each day.
Dean González was meeting with representatives of the student group Tuesday evening.
