New Policy to Protect Those Who Report Unethical or Fraudulent Behavior
The University has established a new policy to provide a confidential way for members of the University community to report suspected unethical or fraudulent behavior and protect them from retaliation after reporting incidents.
The new Prohibition on Retaliation policy is the result of the enactment of the New York Non-Profit Revitalization Act of 2013 that becomes effective on July 1, 2014.
The specific provisions of the new law include a requirement to provide whistleblowers with a confidential means to submit reports of suspected improper conduct within the organization and to protect such whistleblowers from intimidation, harassment, discrimination, adverse employment consequences or other forms of retaliation.
The new policy covers Syracuse University trustees, officers, faculty, staff and volunteers.
