‘Subject is Sports’ Hosts Live Q&A
The Subject is Sports, a massive open online course (MOOC) hosted its first live Q &A session with students on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Rick Burton, David B. Falk Distinguished Professor of Sport Management and SPM graduate assistant Elissa Roberts fielded questions from chat participants on diverse sport management topics, including: the Paralympic Games, the festive environment of U.S. sporting events compared to other countries, the Sochi 2014 Olympics, recovery marketing, the debate on paying college athletes and the hypothetical investment value of sport properties.
“It was a great experience to chat with enrolled students from around the world,” says Burton. “We know we have almost 900 students signed up for this course, and while it is impossible to speak with each one, it was dynamic to provide students anywhere, regardless of their time zone, the opportunity to interact with us in a live format.”
Burton specializes in sports marketing, sponsorship, the Olympic movement, professional sport league management, history of sports and sports broadcasting. He was the chief marketing officer for the U. S. Olympic Committee for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and is the former commissioner of the Sydney-based Australian National Basketball League.
