SU, SEIU Reach New Three-Year Agreement
Syracuse University and Local 200United, Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU), have reached a new three-year agreement. Members of the union, which represents more than 800 University employees, voted to ratify the contract Wednesday, July 10, at Hendricks Chapel.
“Our members are happy to have secured another three-year contract with the University that continues our union’s and the University’s commitment to living wages and affordable benefits,” says Scott Phillipson, president of SEIU Local 200United.
The SEIU represents employees who work in the University’s libraries, Carrier Dome, Food Services, Housing and Food Services Maintenance (FIXit), mail services, materials distribution, physical plant and the steam station.
The effective dates of the new contract are July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2016.
“We are pleased with the solid and respectful relationship between the University and the SEIU as represented in this agreement and the process through which we reached it,” says Kal Alston, senior vice president, Human Capital Development. “We are always looking for ways to support all our employees by providing a competitive wage and benefit package, while at the same time balancing costs at the University.”
