Free Recreational and Ice Skating Programs for Syracuse Families on SU Campus
Syracuse University’s Department of Recreation Services within the Division of Student Affairs is offering its spring lineup of free recreational activities and ice skating lessons for Syracuse area youth and families.
The Neighborhood Youth Recreation Program is set to begin hosting seven sessions of Saturday morning activities for children ages 5-13, regardless of their economic situation. The program runs from Feb. 2 -April 6, from 9-11:30 a.m., in Archbold Gymnasium on SU’s campus. Parents are able to register their child for the spring session anytime during the program hours in the lobby of the gymnasium.
Children will receive free instruction in gymnastics and basketball, and enjoy open swimming. Parents and children are also able to enjoy together, as a family, classes in yoga and Salsa Merengue.
“This program is a great opportunity for the Syracuse community to take advantage of our facilities and for kids and their parents to participate together,” says Ernie Rivera, assistant director of Recreation Services. “There are many kids looking for guidance and additional fitness activities, and this program can provide the direction and structure, while also being fun.”
In addition, a tutoring program will be offered to a limited number of children.
The dates for the spring recreation session are: Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 16, Feb. 23, March 23, March 30 and April 6. The brochure is available here: recreationservices.syr.edu/_documents/nyrp.pdf
