Nominations requested for 44 Stars of Excellence Awards
The Office of Student Activities within the Division of Student Affairs is seeking nominations from faculty, staff and students for the 44 Stars of Excellence Awards and Gala Celebration by April 2 at noon. Nominations can be submitted online at http://syr.orgsync.com/GalaAwards.
The 44 Stars of Excellence Awards and Gala Celebration is a semi-formal dinner and awards ceremony that recognizes and honors the hard work and dedication of Syracuse University’s undergraduate students and student organizations. Approximately 44 awards are given out, ranging from the Division of Student Affairs Award for Collaboration to the Senior Vice President Award for Outstanding Senior Leadership.
“The 44 Stars Gala was such a rewarding event,” says senior Nick Haas, an environmental resources engineering major. “To be recognized for the work I did was really amazing. Sitting in Goldstein with all the other nominees was a powerful feeling; it made me feel how much our campus cares. It was great to see my friends and peers rewarded, too. I hope I get a chance to go again this year.”
The event is sponsored by Macy’s and Bloomingdales, and will be held on April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center.
Highlight of last year’s winners included: Jerk Magazine for the Public Affairs Award for the Most Outstanding Media or Publication; Justin Cole for the Class of 2011 Citizenship Award; Orange Seeds, SOPHE, Comm.UNITY and Sierra Fogal for the the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service Award; and the Muslim Student Association and Phi Iota Alpha for Outstanding Philanthropy Programming.
