CitrusTV partners with Student Association to televise SA presidential debate
Link between student body, Student Association with aid of CitrusTV
In partnership with CitrusTV‘s “SA Today” program, the Syracuse University Student Association will host a debate for the upcoming Student Association presidential and comptroller election. The debate will take place in Grant Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 13, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. Grant Auditorium doors will open at 6:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Jared Mandel, news director at CitrusTV, is producing the program, which will be broadcast live by CitrusTV on both the Orange Television Network (channel 2 on campus) and at SADebate.syr.edu.
“We are excited about this unique opportunity because CitrusTV will be serving the undergraduate community by directly linking students and SA,” says Ben Slutzky, general manager at CitrusTV.
“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to broadcast an exciting election debate to our campus community. This partnership is an illustration of the collaboration that SA encourages among all student organizations,” says Neal Casey, president of Student Association.
All undergraduates are strongly encouraged to attend and engage with the candidates. The debate will be interactive, serving as a flexible forum for the student body to ask the candidates questions in person or via Twitter. Students can post questions to the candidates during the live debate by tweeting with the @SADebate twitter handle, and viewer reactions can be tweeted with the #SADebate hashtag.
Questions from students attending the debate online and in person will be posed to candidates and moderated by CitrusTV’s Andrew Chernoff. CitrusTV and SA will also moderate a Twitter stream of audience reactions that will be shown on-screen, live at the debate. PJ Alampi, the SA board of election and membership chair, will also serve as a reference expert for Student Association elections.
Elections will be held on MySlice beginning on Monday, Nov. 14, through Thursday, Nov. 17. All undergraduates are invited and encouraged to vote for the president of the student body, comptroller and home college representatives.
