Groundbreaking ceremony for the Syracuse University Library Facility, Friday at 2:30 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 7, at 2:30 p.m., Syracuse University Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina, along with Dean of Libraries Suzanne Thorin, will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Syracuse University Library Facility on Jamesville Avenue, adjacent to the Hawkins Building. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Library Facility on South Campus will be a 20,000 square-foot high-density storage facility that will house approximately 1.2 million volumes and include a processing area and conference room. A consistently maintained ideal environment of controlled heat and humidity will significantly extend the life of materials in the facility. Most important, this facility will enable the Library to support the long-term research needs of the faculty by providing space for collections growth.
There are more than 50 facilities of this type throughout the nation, including those in operation at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Indiana, Princeton, Wake Forest and Yale universities.
