SU students explore graduate school possibilities at Graduate & Professional School Day
More than 110 graduate school representatives will descend upon Syracuse University’s Kenneth A. Shaw Quad on Wednesday, Sept. 21, as students line up to learn about their programs and explore graduate school possibilities.
Graduate & Professional School Day will take place from 5-7 p.m. under tents on the Quad. More than 110 graduate school programs will participate, including Columbia University’s School of Journalism, New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, Savannah College of Art & Design, and SUNY Upstate Medical University.
This event is an opportunity for students to speak with graduate school representatives about admissions criteria, obtain literature about programs and curricula, and sign up to receive further communications from selected schools. Interested students across all academic departments are encouraged to attend, as graduate programs in a variety of fields will be represented.
Last year, more than 20 percent of SU’s graduating class enrolled in full-time graduate study after college.
“Graduate & Professional School Day exposes students to a variety of programs and offers a relaxed environment for them to gather information and ask questions,” says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. “Some students may not be sure of their next step after graduation, so this event will help them to explore possibilities and clarify their interests.”
Students of all years are encouraged to attend, not just graduating seniors.
“Even students several years away from applying to graduate school can gain great insight from speaking with representatives at this event,” says Pamela Latham, client services manager in Career Services. “In fact, students who may not even be considering graduate school often come to this event and start thinking about new possibilities.”
The full list of participating schools can be found on the Career Services website at http://careerservices.syr.edu.
