SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

WCBS Radio in New York City (listen to audio clip), WWTI-TV,WSYR-TV and YNN reported that alumnus Ted Koppel, original anchor of the ABC News program “Nightline,” has agreed to make a donation of videotapes and other items he has prepared or received during his career in broadcast journalism to the Syracuse University Library.

The current Light Work exhibition, “That Year of Living,” comprised of photos by Jeffrey Henson Scales, is reviewed in the New York Times.

A Post-Standard series of articles on Say Yes to Education looks at the programs and partners, resources and outcomes of the city-wide initiative in Syracuse’s public school children, noting the roles of Syracuse University, Chancellor Nancy Cantor and SU students and programs in the effort.

The Post-Standard featured an article on the 2011 Babson College Entrepreneurial Research Conference being hosted at the Whitman School of Management this week. The article cited Whitman faculty members Mike Haynie and Alexander McKelvie, who was quoted in the piece. Tom Kruczek, executive director of the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Whitman School, also commented.

A Monday Post-Standard editorial notes SU’s new agreement with the City of Syracuse for municipal services.

Light Work, the LGBT Resource Center at SU and Amit Taneja, associate director of the center are mentioned in a Post-Standard photo feature on the CNY Pride: Families photography by Ellen Blalock on exhibit at ArtRage Gallery.

WSYR-TV and the Sunday Post-Standard covered the ninth annual Duck Race to End Racism at the Syracuse Inner Harbor, benefiting the Community Wide Dialogue to End Racism. SU is an event co-sponsor with National Grid.

The Saturday open house at SubCat Studios on the city’s Near Westside was covered by YNN. James S. Abbott, music technology administrator and instructor in the Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), is quoted.

FACULTY QUOTES

Terry Turnipseed, associate professor in the College of Law, is quoted in a Wall Street Journal article about consequences of deathbed marriages.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a San Francisco Chronicle article on economic recovery after financial panic.

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, discussed turmoil in Syria on NPR‘s Talk of the Nation show.

The Los Angeles Times quotes Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in a story on network censoring.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, is quoted in a Sun News (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) article about incentives Boeing will receive from South Carolina for building a manufacturing plant there.

Kheli R. Willetts, executive director of Community Folk Art Center and assistant professor of African American Studies in The College of Arts and Sciences, authored a guest column on young people in the Post-Standard, marking the closing of the 39th Annual Teenage Competitive Art Exhibition at CFAC.

Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling, senior operations manager in the Burton Blatt Institute, authored a Moneywise article in Monday’s Post-Standard about resources for emerging entrepreneurs in the area. The South Side Innovation Center, Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship, and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities are among those mentioned.
