SU Christian organizations present photography contest
Syracuse University Christian organizations hope to spark conversation about faith and God through photography. SU’s Baptist Campus Ministry and Campus Crusade for Christ present Soul Focus, a photography contest that will ask students to take pictures in response to questions about God and their spiritual life.
“I am so excited about this event because it connects students with students and through photography,” said Alyssa Hillman, one of the coordinators of the event. “Soul Focus is all about starting conversations and getting the chance to see the world through someone else’s lens. My relationship with God has totally changed my life and I love sharing that with others.”
“To me, photography is a tool to jump into someone else’s life or to visualize your own,” said Cheryl Mowczan, a co-coordinator and photo journalism major. “I’m really excited to see how my classmates and peers visualize their spiritual lives. It’s not always something that’s easy to talk about, but we’re hoping Soul Focus will give people a forum to really think and talk openly about their spiritual ideas.”
Submission for the contest begins on Oct. 19 and ends on Oct. 28. Photos will be posted on http://www.mysoulfocus.org, where students will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite submissions until Oct. 31. When votes are tallied winning photos will be printed, mounted and displayed in the Hendricks Chapel Noble room for a gallery event on Nov. 4.
