Feminist, journalist and Ms. magazine founder Gloria Steinem will speak Tuesday, March 20, at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. In “An Evening with Gloria Steinem,” Steinem will talk about her rise to journalistic fame as an undercover Playboy bunny, her years as an editor for New York magazine, and, most famously, Ms. Magazine — the nation’s first feminist magazine — and her steadfast commitment to the women’s rights movement.
The event — sponsored by the Syracuse University chapters of Women in Communications and Ed2010 — is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public. Tickets — $3 for students and $5 for faculty, staff and the generalpublic — are on sale at the Schine Student Center Box Office. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask Steinem questions following her speech.
Steinem is a trailblazer in journalism and feminism. She was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993 and into the American Society of Magazine Editors Hall of Fame in 1998. She is the author or co-author of more than a dozen books and founded the Ms. Foundation for Women. Steinem also co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Women’s Action Alliance.
