The “Syracuse 8” — African American alumni who in 1970 left the SU football team after their calls for greater equality and equal treatment were not honored — are acknowledged during halftime of the SU-Louisville football game Oct. 21. At a special ceremony the evening before, SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor award these former Orange football players SU’s Chancellor’s Medal. During the game, the group was presented with their SU Letterman’s jackets, which they never received after leaving the team.
