Contemporary jazz quartet The Yellowjackets will perform in Goldstein Auditorium, in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. The concert is sponsored by Pulse, which provides SU undergraduates with opportunities to attend and participate in cultural programs, performances, exhibitions and events on campus and in the community.
Tickets are $5 for SU students with valid SU I.D., $10 for SU faculty and staff, and $20 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the Schine Box Office. For more information, call (315) 443-4517 or visit http://students.syr.edu/pulse.
Formed in 1977, the Grammy-award winning Yellowjackets shift deftly between swing and funk rhythms, happily placing the group in the divide that exists between mainstream and contemporary jazz markets.
“The Yellowjackets are perhaps one of the finest examples of true contemporary jazz. As a huge fan of this group’s tremendous talent that I have enjoyed over the years, I can’t wait for their upcoming performance here at SU,” says Barry L. Wells, senior vice president and dean of student affairs. “For students who have already secured tickets for this show, you’re in for a special evening. Any students who don’t yet have tickets, I encourage them to get them. You’ll be glad you did!”
SU’s Pulse was developed nearly 10 years ago as a joint initiative between the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Division of Student Affairs to influence student culture in positive ways by positioning the arts and cultural events more prominently as part of the student experience.
