Daniel Matt, one of the world’s leading authorities on Jewish mysticism, will speak on “The Zohar: Masterpiece of Kabbalah,” Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 320 of Syracuse University’s Hall of Languages. The lecture, sponsored by the Judaic Studies Program in SU’s College of Arts and Sciences, is free and open to the public.
Matt’s books include the bestseller “The Essential Kabbalah” and “God and the Big Bang,” and a new, annotated translation of the Zohar. He received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University and taught for more than 20 years at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif.
From 1998-2002, Matt worked on the first part of his ambitious project: a 12-volume, annotated translation of the Zohar. The first two volumes of “The Zohar: Pritzker Edition” were recently published by Stanford University Press.
