Nationally recognized soprano Marcy Anne Betzer will perform at 4 p.m. Oct. 4 in Syracuse University’s Hendricks Chapel in a benefit concert sponsored by the chapel and SU’s Students Offering Service. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The performance will raise funds for community service activities sponsored by Students Offering Service, including the International Young Scholars Program, the Share the Warmth Blanket Drive, the Quiltmakers’ Guild and Habitat for Humanity.
A native of Rome, N.Y. and a sophomore in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Betzer is known for her rich voice and versatility. She has a Bel-Canto style of singing, and her ability to perform in Italian, French, German, Hebrew and English has allowed her to explore and perform a large range of works written for the classical voice.
Betzer, 23, has performed throughout the United States and Northern Italy. Locally, she is a frequent guest singer at the Rome Art and Community Center and performs annually at the Munson Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica. Betzer won first prize in the “Star of Tomorrow” competition in New York City and plans to travel to London next year.
Betzer will be accompanied by world-class pianist Chiharu Sakai Carpenter. Carpenter has won prizes in several international competitions and has had successful recitals in concerto performances with orchestras in Europe and Japan. She has a master’s degree from the Fine Arts University in Tokyo as well as diplomas from the Conservatoire Royal de Musique en Brussels and the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.
