Kathleen Keir Wheatley, a Ph.D. candidate in Syracuse University’s School of Management, will present “Implementing an Innovation Strategy: The Effects of Strategic Leadership Structure and Compensation” at 7:30 p.m. April 10 in Grant Auditorium. Her lecture is part of the continuing Pathways to Knowledge Lecture Series. Wheatley’s research investigates the implication of strategic leadership structure and compensation on the innovation strategy-firm performance relationship. Traditionally, top management teams and boards of directors share leadership responsibilities. Innovation strategy is becoming a more common vehicle through which firms gain competitive advantage. The strategies, along with leadership issues, have been examined independently in strategy research. The methodology has traditionally focused on the direct relationship between innovation and performance, or on leadership and performance. Wheatley’s research attempts to bridge the gap between these two viewpoints and integrate the research areas by exploring the role of strategic leadership in implementing an innovation strategy. Sponsored by the Department of Science Teaching in The College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School, the Pathways to Knowledge Lecture Series is designed to broaden the academic horizons of undergraduate students by inviting the University’s Ph.D. candidates to share their research.
