Find Success with Career Services’ Career Crash Course

cccSyracuse University students can experience a semester’s worth of career development workshops in a single day through the Career Crash Course. Career Services, within the Division of Student Affairs, is hosting this event on Friday, April 5, in Room 304 ABC of the Schine Student Center. Interested students are encouraged to sign up before April 5 by visiting Career Services in 235 Schine.

The Career Crash Course is aimed at preparing students with the knowledge they need to pursue internships and jobs as the end of the academic year approaches. With workshops led by a variety of employers, students will gain exclusive tips on ways to improve their resumes, build their personal brands, network, utilize resources for internship/job searches and prepare for interviews. Employers leading these workshops include General Electric, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, Northwestern Mutual, PepsiCo and Teach for America.

"Career Services is excited to offer an event made up of an array of workshops and employers featured throughout the year,” says Susan Casson, associate director of employer relations at SU. “We understand that sometimes students cannot make it to our workshops due to their schedules and that it is growing stressful to find internships and jobs. With our one-day Career Crash Course, our students can learn everything they need to confidently pursue their career endeavors from experts in the real world.”

The event will be held between 11 a.m.-3:45 p.m. with 45-minute workshop sessions focusing on specialized topics:

  • 11-11:45 a.m.: “Resume Rev Up,” a workshop session on resume building
  • noon-12:45 p.m.: “Brand Boost,” a lesson on personal branding
  • 1-1:45 p.m.: “Luncheon Pit-Stop,” a network luncheon with employers
  • 2-2:45 p.m.: “Steer Your Job Search,” a session on job searching
  • 3-3:45 p.m.: “Arriving at the Interview,” a lesson on interviewing

In addition, Career Crash Course will provide students with opportunities to briefly meet with employers for mock interviews between 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. and resume critiques between 2-3:45 p.m.

Career Services will be using the hash tag #CCCSU to encourage discussion on Twitter between students and employers participating in the event.
